Is it true that quads are the new biceps?
The quadriceps muscles, also known as the "quads," are powerful muscles that allow the lower body movement and propulsion. The quadriceps muscles are composed of four large muscles located at the front of the thigh. These muscles are indispensable for providing hip flexion and extension at the knee joint.
And in the past years, most men used to focus on training the upper part of their body, biceps, triceps, shoulders, chest, and of course, the popular six packs, but, legs weren’t a priority in those days, they were just left behind.
Define your quads and get more confidence
Maintaining the quadriceps muscles in a good shape will be helpful for you and brings good benefits as moving through regular daily activities like climbing stairs and getting out of a chair with greater ease. It will also give you an athletic boost allowing you to perform better in activities like running, cycling, or team sports such as football or soccer.
Dalton Wong, director of Twenty Two Training, says that nowadays the amount of men looking to improve this area and acquiring defined quadriceps has increased; he calls it a “huge shift” in quads. But, is this enough to say that quads have become the new biceps?
The teardrop-shaped vastus medialis oblique is one of the most difficult areas of the body to shape and, but it has become one of the parts that men strive to achieve. And since it’s considered as the “trademark of the well-worked body” for some, its popularity still grows.
Although, training your quads is not an easy job, because they can’t be isolated, they require commitment and dedication with a good routine of exercises that will engage them.
The Bulgarian Split Squat, the Jammer, the Lunge, the Leg Press, the Wall Sit and the Box Step are among the exercises that are recommended to fully develop the muscles in your legs. And it’s needed to have these workouts at least once or twice a week.
Some other alternatives are isolation exercises for training the quads. Isolation exercises are simply those movements that involve just one joint. Common isolation exercises for the quads are leg extensions and exercise machines for the inner thigh and outer thigh.
As days pass by we see more and more people embracing the trend of improving those quads, as Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson who shows on his social media how he has perfected his quads.
And the list continues growing. Legs are the natural progression; they have become as important as some other muscles, especially when fitness post their deadlifts, squats, and clean and jerks on social media.
Exercise your legs and show them with good shorts
Many agree with the fact that the popularity of the quads has increased and in an esthetic way many people are focusing their efforts on developing their legs and butt over defining their abs (yes, the age of the six packs has ended). But we need to remember that we shouldn’t neglect other body parts in the attempt to grow some games, because as the old Greek philosopher Socrates said: “No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”
And well, it’s undeniable the fact that the desire of improving the quads has been influenced by the trend for wearing shorts, a perfect garment that looks good at any occasion.
So, why don’t you join this movement? Demonstrate that you can have big and strong quads and show them to the world with some stylish and elegant shorts! We bet you that when that moment arrives, you won’t stop wearing shorts!
